How bad are the no see ums? My wife gets eaten alive and it would ruin her dive trip.

Nothing worked for us other than the near toxic level Deet products applied at LD 50 doses.

Edit:
I should add I gave up on this after about five days, for the most part they don't itch like mosquito bites. Just covered in red spots. Get on anti malarial before you go.

No, they are bad but not that bad.

I brought Off Familycare on my last Roatan trip and didn't get bit at all. The bugs were definitely present. I remember seeing some poor guy who hadn't used any bug repellent. The familycare version of off has a little less deet, smells and feels a little better than regular off. Still works perfectly.

I'm always the one in the group that gets bitten the most and has the worst reaction. 100% Deet spray is effective but it can be harsh on the skin, which then you must decide, does she want irritation from the prevention or the bite itself? Mosquitoes and sand fleas are awful there. Never ever sit in the sand on the beach.

Good to know. This makes this a no go zone for my family.
