Last weekend I witnessed an (unofficial) world record: My friend Emil Lars blowing 90 bubbles with one (!) inhalation. Thanks to Emil and Laura Pearce for the footage, in the video below I explain how it is even possible for humans to control their breathing underwater to such a degree, also based on results from a very interesting new study using near-infrared brain measurements.
Bubble ring blowing seems like a more fun variant of "static apnea".
I myself am fairly fit and a very experienced scuba diver and can probably blow 5 or 6 before I have to take another breath.
This happened in Dauin, Negros Island, Philippines.
