I know that this is a rich man's/woman's sport and that might have something to do with the low attendance in scuba diving. My question is how can my broke azz save some cash while diving. I'm looking for cheap gear, travel, dive sites, dive charters, and anything else that could save a buck or two.

how cheap is roatan? the room and diving is cheaper, but to get there, it's more, no?

It's a pain to get there, but its dirt cheap once you are there. The best way to get there is using frequent flyer miles (Delta or Continental). 35K miles and you are on your way. How you get the miles is up to you.

Scuba to Roatan!! :D

We go in May for our third trip in a year.... Roatan is like crack for those who like good prices, warm weather, and great diving. :D

I need another hit!

Invest in basic equipment and then all you pay is to get fills and trips. Dive locally, look for last minute spots on boats, dive lakes and springs.

Get a job (even if it is doing it for free) at a scuba shop and your expenses may go down for fills and trips.

Sell your blood, sperm or other body parts is an option, but maybe not for diving....?:D

This sport does not have to be for the “rich man/woman”. No one would ever mistake me for being rich. Regarding gear, don’t be afraid to buy second hand. Many areas have local swaps. Check the newspapers or club wed sites. The vast majority of divers keep their gear in good shape. Speaking of clubs, join one, that’s often a good place to hear about used gear coming up for sale and they usually have some sort of a deal on charters for members. Remember as with anything new or used it’s always buyer beware.
