I'm looking to purchase my first regulator and am looking at the Aqualung Legend series. In particular, the only difference between the LX and ACD is the breathing control adjustment knob. Based on the name, I've got an idea what its purpose is, but I suppose I'm questioning how often and under what circumstances this feature would be useful. Thoughts??

Others will chime in I'm sure but basically you can set the regs 2nd stage to breathe as easily as possible without free flowing. This setting will change depending on whether you are on the surface, at depth or in current.

We usually set our Oceanic GT3/CDX5's about a turn and a half in from all the way out when we mount the reg in preparation for a dive, adjust it out as far as possible (just short of a free flow) during a dive, and all the way out after a dive to make it easier on the reg for storage.

For some like to adjust the cracking pressure till they do not free flow for the venturi I like to have my Primary at the pluss and my backup at neg.. Im using ATX 2nd stages.

What kind of diving do you do? I have the Legend LX and I do play with the knob usually only when I dive deep. It makes the regulator that much easier to breathe from. If you are diving where you don't often dive deep, you might want to put the money towards something else.

There are many reasons that I choose the Legend LX, but one of them was that I didn't want to be sorry that I didn't spend a little more to get the upgrade. But, I choose to do that a lot! :D

Capt'n: he's talking about the user adjustment knob not the venturi switch. On the LX model, there are two knobs.

if you dont mind fiddleing with stuff during a dive it maybe for you, some people just wouldnt want to mess with anything while diving,i do adjust mine as i decend, dont really think about it,just back it off a little to keep it in its sweet spot,i really didnt like that reg until i learned to adjust it during a dive, now wouldnt trade for any,its a scubapro balanced adjustable about 25 years old.

I use adjustable 2nd for both my primary and my alternate. I like to tune my regs a little on the hot side and then use the adjustment to prevent/stop leaks. I detune my alternate with that nob until I need to use it. When my primary is ion my mouth, I normally set it to the easiest breathing position unless there is current or surge whioch will cause some freeflow if I don't detune. I'll also detune my primary if I have to remove my gear like if I am handing it up on a smaller boat. My wife also has a reg with a user adjustment. I don't think she uses the adjustment much. YMMV
