You're right....it doesn't make "sence"

The course you are describing is an PADI Open Water Diver course. I suggest visiting PADI's website at www.padi.com , or click this link. During the course you will learn the skills needed to dive. After sucessful completion of this course you can dive without an instructor present and purchase equipment from dive stores.

The BC is device which, besides holding the tank, allows you to add air to an air bladder to adjust your bouyancy - in other words, float, sink or (best of all) hover. You will learn a lot more about how they work in your Open Water Diver course.

There are several different styles of BCs. The most common ones seen today are jacket BCs where the air bladder wraps around you, back inflate BCs where the air bladder is positioned on your back, and backplate/wing combanations which are similar to back inflate BCs but incorperate a much larger metal backplate.

To dive with double tanks you will need to use either a BP/W or a special back inflate BC. Both can do the job but many people prefer BP/W for double tanks. I suggest searching the forum for BP/W threads; there are a great deal of threads about them.

Good luck with your course!

Whew!!!

First - welcome to ScubaBoard. I hope you enjoy your stay here!

Second - a friendly tip to make your posts much easier to read and understand. Using punctuation to separate your thoughts goes far to add to the readability.

Although (thankfully for me) most people don't seem to mind the occassional typo or misspelled word, you may wish to consider using a spell checker program. I'm told they are readily available online or your computer probably has a Word type program you could run it through. You could then cut and past the fixed text into a post. Please don't take offense - I'm just trying to give you some friendly tips?

Again - Welcome and thanks for posting :D

Yes, Scubamate, it would . . .

Wouldn't it be more professional to criticize in a PM instead of the public forum?

Prophesional what?

Welcome to the board, kid! :D Hope you enjoy it here. There's a lot to learn. (mostly good, some not so good) I took my first course through school also (but not in Wyoming), and that's rare these days so you're lucky.

One thing you might want to do is fill out your profile a bit. People will go there to check it out, and will provide answers to your questions based on where you're diving, what experience level you have, etc. It helps put your questions into context, so people can give you more meaningful answers.

You've already got your answer, its an 'open water certification' course. I hope you enjoy taking it. Use the search feature on this board to find other threads that discuss these courses and the experiences of other new divers.

Have fun on ScubaBoard.
