I opened a brand new MK17 EVO2 yesterday. Straight out of the box, I notice the first stage makes an odd sound when I tilt it back and forth. It’s not exactly a metallic rattle, but there is clearly something in there that is loose and sliding back and forth.

Any idea what the issue is here?

Vid is a no show but my guess is this is the transmitter (thing under the environmental cap that transfers the outside pressure to the diaphragm) moving around while unpressurized.

Ok. I tried a different way of embedding the video. Seems to work good enough.

@lexvil Scubapro Tech support sort of said the same thing in the most round-about “we can’t really say anything” way possible.

You have some MK17E2s…do your’s make a sound when you tilt them? Not a quiet subtle sound at all, like a ball bearing rolling back and forth in a hollow chamber (kind of).

Any concerns around having loose parts banging into each other causing wear and tear? The majority of a reg’s life is spent unpressurized.

One of mine, the newer one makes the exact sound, the other one not as noticeable (not in the habit of shaking them) my 11evo without the transmitter, does not, the yoke can also make some noise if the dust cap isn’t tight, my 17’s are both DIN.

I’ll add; no concerns at all

Ok. If you say it’s true, I believe you. Thanks!
Maybe the parts will seat and be less noisy after some use.
Definitely not the yoke. Maybe not obvious in the video, but the sound is coming from the regulator body, localization to the environmental chamber makes sense.

My non evo 17 (that I use as a air gun source) also rattles like that now, and I have a “bubble” trapped in the env seal; the more it rattles the more indicative it’s of a trapped bubble
All we need to do is uncap the env diaphragm while pressurized and reseat it under pressure to have it tightly coupled again (pressing on the transmitter so there’s no play)

Eitherway no concern (except if you want perfect IP tracking to depth down to the cm — a non issue)
