Hi,
I'm over 50, been in water more than average since young, never had opportunity to SCUBA dive, though I desired it. When I was 10, I watched all the episodes of Sea Hunt, with Lloyd Br...what's his name. Tonight, I'm looking forward to breathing underwater for the first time. We will be clearing our masks and regulators and all that stuff. I'm excited. I'm in a large group class in Southern California. Saturday we do an open water (Ocean, shore entry), skin dive, followed every other weekend by 10 open water SCUBA dives. I'm pretty excited. TTYL

Welcome to the board and to scuba. There are a lot of us who share your youth....and some of us take it a step farther and dive to old double hose gear just like Mike....( Mike Nelson aka Lloyd Bridges)

welcome aboard
from another old dude!!!!!!
wait until you can breath underwater with the fishes this weekend.......
it will change your life!!!!!
good luck

Thanks for the welcome. I enjoyed the training exercise in the pool. We each took off our masks underwater and swam about 20' being led by our buddy, then put the mask back on and cleared it. We also practiced losing our regulator and replacing it while exhaling, and we worked on achieving neutral bouyancy. This was fun, but I have sad news. I went to a doctor for a physical, (required by the school), and I failed. I will not be diving in this class anymore it looks like. Perhaps not at all. I easily swim a mile in under 45 minutes, but I had shortness of breath on a treadmill and high blood pressure and the doc says I'm not fit to dive. (And he charged me $200.00 for this.)
