Can someone please explain the differences between the two and what situations the differences would be ideal for. Thanks for the help.

BP1 is a piston 1st stage
D1 is a diaphragm 1st stage

As it was explained to me, diaphragm for back gas and piston for stages.

Also diaphragm for really cold water and piston for warmer.

Hope that helps!

Yes it does, thank you. Although I will be diving warm waters, I think I will stick with thr D1 for my first first stage. It has received great reviews and feel comfortable going with it as my first reg (along with two second stages).

Sorry, rush reply before heading out.

Should have said diaphragm or piston for warmer waters.

I personally bought D1 Cold 1st stages and I dive warmer waters. The Cold version enviromentally seals the 1st stage, so it does help.
