This might be a real newbie question, but i have strange visions in my head.

I have looked around a little regarding, BP/Wings and several have suggested that you can have a ring on your crotch strap to attach a scooter to. I realise this is via some kind of tether (line) and not directly attached, but a weird vision appeared in my head! Seajay once wrote about how when they were playing in the pool one day that a friend brought along a scooter (i cant recall what the thread was actually on), but he said that the person using it lost control and it shot across the pool - to which he grabbed it (stopping it from hitting someone else?) and stopped the scooter.

Now my vision is that you are going along, this thing strapped to your crotch, you lose control/grip and suddenly you are being dragged along - crotch first, trying to recover your grip (or detach the scooter) - couldnt think of a less attractive pose!

So like i said, maybe a newbie question, but do they have deadman switches? (didnt appear so in the pool example), has this happened to anyone? is there a way around it that is designed in?

My scooter has a trigger that must be depressed for the prop to spin. Let go of the trigger and the prop stops... unless the relay or reed switch is welded closed in which case you stop the prop by hand and dial the pitch back to 1.

well with this apollo scooter, would you get towed along by your crotch then? If it were attached elsewhere i could see easily regain control, however to be pulled at a point which is right in the middle of your body and at the top of your alternative propulsion unit (legs) would be even more so!

It really conjures up a strange image in my head!

BTW, i am not planning on buying a scooter, just thinking about this place on the crotch strap where you attach it from what i have read of BP/Wings.

Careful, this is the seductive "creeping complexity" that's so pervasive in the SCUBA industry these days (and is instilled in students by gadget-oriented instructors) and goes something like this:

To solve a problem, never take a step back toward simplicity, always move forward toward more complexity, which usually introduces another problem.

Now by making things even more complex, solve the new problem you introduced. Which creates another problem....

And on and on and on.

So the problem is a trigger that locks on. Instead of solving the problem "What do I if it's locked on and it gets away from me?" take a step back and simply solve the original problem:

Don't buy a scooter whose trigger locks on. Problem solved.

I've used an APOLLO that was modified with a tow hook. It allows one handed useage connected to my crotch D ring. I also have used an APOLLO without tow line. I vote for tow line myself. Much easier, and less tireing on my poor wittle fingers.

I must be missing something here, but the picture in my head involves someone with the new nickname, "Stubs!"
Your image is correct, but it doesn't have that result.
