Dude, get the plate and use the Zeagle wings while you figure out what to buy. I did it with Scout wings and it worked great. (Is it o.k. if I call you dude?)

Exactly. The Zeagle wings detach from the Ranger fabric harness. You can easily attach the wing to an aluminum backplate. This saves you $250 rather than buying a redundant extra wing.

We should start a new forum for DIZ.

Doing It Zeagle!

I did exactly the same thing with the wing from my Zeagle "Tech" while I was deciding upon which single tank wing to get.

I went with the Dive Rite "Venture" wing.

I'm diving E8-119's and it works just fine.

Well I just spoke to John at NE Scuba and he has a great deal on Dive Rite for 330 (including choice of backplate, wing and rigging), 450 if you want a spiffy comfort rig. He turned me away from Halcyon, but recommended DiveRite and Oxycheq (with Oxycheq being a bit pricier). His final recommendation was to get a 40lb Trek wing (which has the gusset) and would be better for osmeone who dives in the mid Atlantic and the Carribean. Anyone know how big the Trek wing packs? Part of my reason for switching is also easier packing for travel!

Well, I got the Rec wing which is bigger and I have no problem packing it....in fact....my bcd is in my carry on back pack.

Just out of curiousity, what did he have against Halcyon?

There were several things:
1. He had problems dealing with Halcyon when he received damaged goods
2. He felt that Halcyon equipment wasn't as well built as other manufacturers (DiveRite and Oxycheq)
3. He doesn't like the way DIR/GUE/Halcyon gestalt does business in general

But if I had wanted a Halcyon rig, he would have sold it to me.

Its only a gestalt if you're not paying attention.

My buddy packs a plate and Trek wing. It packs way smaller than my Ranger, but about the same weight.

DIR gestalt eh. That's the best description I've heard yet. It's too bad there isn't a word that describes a whole, that if a single part is missing, you will surely die. Perhaps GUEstalt. :11:
