About the whole weighting thing, here are my thoughts: 6 lb back plate, two integrated pockets with 7 lbs each and two 3 pound rear trim integrated pockets. I'd like to avoid a weight belt but I'm not apposed to one. In that case I'd have a 6 lb back plate and dispurse 20 lbs abound the belt.

I'll switch to a necklace / second but I really didn't want another hose...oh well.

Thanks again!

I'd use a weighted STA instead of the 6lbs of trim pockets, and use a belt instead of the integrated pockets. I used those at first (Halcyon ACB) and they really get in the way. Plus its harder to move the rig around a boat with all the weight in one spot. I don't like a weight belt either, and don't use one for fresh water with a single steel tank. Have to add 5 lbs for salt though:(
Take it slow, work with different ideas until you get one that clicks for you.

An instructor told me he almost drowned because he ran out of air and his buddy had one of those Air2 inflator/octo combo units. The buddy wouldn't give him his primary, and the length was so short he couldn't breathe off of the Air2 so he ended up making an emergency ascent, luckily he didn't have a deco obligation.

After hearing that story I would never use an Air2 or buddy with someone who had it. I don't trust them.

Keep in mind that the Eclipse does NOT have cam band slots in it so you will need a STA.

crosing,

I'm no fan of the Air2 and the like, but seems the real problem was with the buddy, not his eq.

Would that same "buddy" have willingly donated his Octo (assuming he had one) ?

I'm not arguing pro or against either approach, just against incompetence.

With a single tank rig and 20 years of experience in the water, I'm sure you'll have it down pat in no time.[/QUOTE]

True but on the surface it just seems like would be difficult to get it right ya know? I am willing to learn :)

Better another hose than a simultaneous bouyancy/regulator malfunction... especially if it happens while sharing air.

True!

I bought the FredT because he was referred here on SB, and 'cause he seemed like a nice guy, and I like it fine (plus, he actually did exactly what he said he would!).
I put my the crotch strap on my BP/W on in the water (surface) by buckling the waist strap, leaning forward with reg in mouth, grab the crotch strap between legs, lean back, release waist strap, thread through crotch strap, re-buckle waist strap and DONE. Don't know if that's the "right" way, but it takes about 5 seconds and worked for me easy on the first try.

I just wanted to say thanks for the info on this thread. I bought a Halcyon Eclipse System (6 lb. backplate with the ACB integrated weight system) SOOOOOOOOO COOL!

I can't wait to use it.
