I just completed my DM course and filed my application with PADI yesterday. As I'm planning to buy a Blackplate, harness single tank wing system as BC, another DM told me that I won't be able to use it in IDC IE as its against rules and only jacket type BCD can be used as its the standard equipment. Can anyone clarify if its true.
Any other requirements about diving gear for IDC IE ?????

I'm sure a search of threads will yield a lot of info on this, but in a nutshell the BP/Wing isn't against the "rules", he's a knuckle head for saying so.

However, it will rock the boat because it's different than what is still considered the "norm" and the thought of why it's a better set-up is irrelevant. Most of us with that question just opted to bite the bullet and do the course in a jacket. You're not diving in the course/IE anyway, it's mostly on your knees type stuff, and trim etc is just background noise :)

Have fun, and roll with the propoganda ;)

Thanks Steve. That means I need to borrow a Jacket type BCD when I do my IDC/IE.
Who wants to buy stuff which you are not going to use.

Andy,

I had this discussion with some instructors on the board just a couple of weeks ago. I tried to find the thread, but have been unable to locate with just a quick search.

Anyway, what it gets down to is completing the IDC in much the same way as you completed your rescue course.

Wear the gear that will most likely worn by your students. That doesn't necessarily mean a "jacket" type of B/C. A back inflate, if you have one, will be just as acommodating because of the similarities in the closure devices and weighting systems between the back inflate and jacket type B/C's.

I prefer my BP/W, but I'll be doing my IDC in my Zeagle back inflate B/C.

Thanks Kraken. I have tried back inflation BC by zeagle. They are much better than jacket style BCD in trim. But I'm simply bonkers over MC Explorer/Evolve - Halcyon system. So for IDC I will borrow from my LDS.
