Is there somewhere that shows the size of different backplates. Do there differ from manufacture.

Check with KidSpot, he'd developed somewhat of a matrix of backplates and their respective manufacturers.

Few manufacturerers make different sized backplates. Your best bet might be DSS. Just check out Tobin's website.

Lots of info on here. From what I have read (and I am very new to the whole BP/W) it seems that DSS, Oxycheq, and FredT offers plates in various sizes. Some of the other names frequently mentioned are Halcyon, DiveRite, and OMS. However, there are many other plate brands out there (Freedom, Hammerhead, Golem Gear, TDL, Zeagle, etc).

In terms of functionality, a plate is a plate (sort of). However, there seems to be some variances in terms of material used (ie. stainless steel), flatness (profile), slot placing, finish, etc. Anyway, again, lots of info on here. Try some initial searches and then definitely ask specific questions as people are very helpful here. Good luck.

The only thing that's standard on backplates is the presence of at least one set of holes in the center channel 11" center to center. These are for mounting doubles. All other features, angles, offsets , slots, or no slots, slot position, perimeter holes, material, finish , overal size, overall shape etc. etc. are variable from designer to designer.

Many plates are very similar, but there is no "Standard"

My suggestion is to rely on the manufacturer. Provide them with your personal info, and let them make a suggestion as to BP size.
