Bora Bora was the last stop of our 3 island trip to French Polynesia. The other 2 islands we visited were Manihi (trip report) and Fakarava (trip report).
We didnt pick Bora Bora for the scuba diving -- we came here for the amazing lagoon! We honeymooned in Bora Bora many years ago, and were looking forward to seeing this beautiful island again! Topside photos are here.
Still, we squeezed in 4 dives with Blue Nui. Blue Nui is based at the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort -- we stayed at the Hotel Bora Bora, and Blue Nui came each morning to the dock to pick us up. The dives were very easy and relaxed, especially after Fakarava. The dives were 20-25 meters max and lasted ~1 hour, with plenty of time to take underwater pictures.
Our first dive was at Toopua, which was mostly boring. The area where we started and ended had pretty much nothing to see. We swam over to another area with coral, where we saw 3 eagle rays, anemones and other reef fish.
We also dove at Haapiti, where we saw ~10 blacktip reef sharks, a lemon shark and plenty of other colorful fish to take pictures of.
Tapu was our favorite dive site of the 3 we visited. We dove here twice and saw a lot of variety -- lemon sharks, blacktip reef sharks, remoras, lionfish, puffers, morays and much more. My favorites were the puffers.
Hotel Bora Bora was awesome personalized service, attentive staff it was perfection. They are about to close for renovations, but we look forward to going back after they re-open!
