I have read that the visibility in Bonaire has been terrible recently....around the end of July. I was wondering if there have been any improvements since then. I leave for my first trip to Bonaire August 18th and I am hoping it clears up by then.

I was there July 22-29. It was improving some each day. Still, we are talking about 30-40 ft instead of the usual 100+. I have heard from on island friends that it is still improving. It's no where near quarry vis :).

Yep, getting better every day! It had to do with a weird tempature change, which from what I under stand was only a degree or so and a certain type of algae began to grow. Well it's pretty much gone now. The other concern, was the Sahara Desert dust that was covering the Caribbean. I went in the water this week end, I was very happy, vis was very good.

Is it back to normal or just much better than it has been? Either way I'm glad to hear that's it's getting better. I would hate for my first trip to Bonaire to be disappointing.

Theresa,

Believe me, your trip will NOT be dissapointing. Normal is a relative term. Normal for this time of year, yes it is just about back, but then again, it all depends on rain, wind, hurricane season (which only does not affect us directly,) though during the season, the Caribbean Sea can churn up, making vis a little low.

I will tell you though it will be MUCH BETTER than almost ANY where in the States. You will not dissappointed if you think that their will be 100+ feet VIS every day if that is what you expect. Just think though, if you expect let's say 60+ feet and you DO get 100+ feet everyday, you can be OVERJOYED with your trip!

Thanks for clarifying. 60ft visibility sounds great to me. I'm really looking foward to my trip.

I just returned yesterday from a week's stay. I would say that by Friday the viz was ~60' and improving daily.
