I have heard a lot about Bonaire and its great diving . Trying to choose between Captain Dons Habitat and Buddy Dive resort . Which resort would you reccomend and why for a couple and their 15 year old daughter on her first dive after certification ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just got back on the 8th from my first trip to Bonaire. I don't really know anything about the 2 resorts you mentioned, I stayed at the Plaza Resort. I highly recomend them. All of the service was excellent, including the dive shop. I would absolutely stay there again!

just do a search.

You'll be surprised by how much info there is already because this topic comes up at least once a week.

Whichever you choose, you'll have a great time. Bonaire is excellent! :thumb:

We have been to BD for the last 3 years and can't wait to get back. The 2 resorts are almost side by side (Lions Dive is Between them). The resorts are fairly even but IMHO Buddy has the better overall operation. The boats and house reefs are not much different. What sets them apart is the staff and the way the operation is run. We get the "Dive and Drive" package. It includes everything you need in one package while on island except for lunch and dinner. With the D&D package, I have to make one deal instead of getting my rental vehicle seperate, it saves a lot of hassle.

The staff at BD are first rate and make you feel at home. We are treated like family every time we return. One example of an operational "nicety' that keeps me coming back is checkin. Unlike any other operation I have stayed at, you are taken DIRECTLY to your room after arrival (airport pickup is included in the package), shown the necessary paper work and ask to bring it back to the desk in an hour or 2, no hurry. After standing in long airport lines for hours, it's nice to take your time, walk to the water and then at your leasure, check in. The vehicles are in good shape and all I have gotten have been realitively new, <20k miles and are owned by the resort so there is no middle man to deal with. The buffet breakfast is very good as well.
The dive staff are friendly and safety minded. The drive thru air station is also great, no lugging tanks long distances for shore dives.

You can't go wrong with either resort .

My wife and I stayed at the Plaza Resort when we went to Bonaire a year ago for our honeymoon. We had a terrific time and would wholeheartedly recommend Toucan Diving (the dive op on Plaza Resort grounds).

I stayed at the Divi this past Sept/Oct.....very nice, however their tank set up was not convenient for shore diving. Well worth the extra effort, but i did see the othr resorts had more convenient arrangements. Captin Don's was real nice...and the DM..think his name is Sherman...very knowledgeable and entertaining! The food there was excellent also.

Have a great trip....heck...i'd sleep with the donkeys...no place is a bad place there! lol

I stayed at Captain Don's a few years ago. I had a wonderful time. Nice house reef, good food, good bar. No problem with diving solo either.
