My understanding of the liveaboard experience is that it is all diving, ALL day and night and no shore intervals. :) Very intense. Is this so, experts?

A liveaboard is excatly the opposite of intense. Most liveaboards are set up so that you do either four or five dives a day. You do not have to do any dives. It's totally up to you what schedule you choose to dive. Some locations are intense locations because the diving is advanced!!!

Some provide land excursions during the week - you need to read the itentaries "sp" and some do not. The PH boat in Belize did not. Some have kayaks and you can paddle over to an island and chill for a few hours if you want. See the Aquacat in the Bahamas.

The liveaboard experience is what you choose it to be. BUT IT IS A DIVE VACATION - not a vacation with some diving.

Bonaire is the my second choice to Live-aboard diving. I did Nekton in Belize and it was some of the best off shore diving ever. Bonaire you can dive at you resorts house reef or get a rental truck and do some of the beach reefs. I am staying at Divi Flamingo in Oct 2 to 9th 2010. Feel free to join us at Divi we are doing 5 (1 tank) boat dives besides the house reef.

I have been to both Belize and Bonaire and liked both. If you want a great diving vacation, both locations offer great choices. If you want topside activities, I give the edge to Belize. During my last trip to Belize, I went to visit a Mayan ruins site, did some inner tubing in a cave park and went to the Belize Zoo. I had a wonderful time! There's a lot of variety in the country. Pick one of the two and have a great vacation!
