Just realized that my atomic yoke regulator won't fit on my Blue Steel pro valves. So far I have found a few yokes that fit over it and a few that don't. I plan on switching that reg to DIN so its not that big of a deal, but this could also be a problem when trying to get the tanks filled if they don't have a big enough yoke or a DIN fitting.

hmmm.... I wonder if my yoke will fit over my Blue Steel valve. I've never used anything but DIN with it, but I was on a liveaboard last year that I took it on and they screwed the Yoke insert in and filled it every time with a Yoke connection.... so it does work some of the time...

I can't say that I like the Blue Steel valves as much as I do a Thermo valve though. but not enough to spend $100 plus bucks swapping two of them out. (BTW... the Blue Steel valves are actually made by San-o-sub, in case you'r wondering).

If you have to purchase new ones, consider the XS Scuba valves over the Thermo valve. It has a few positive changes in the crush-bonnet, the number of turns to turn it on and has a hex dip tube so you can use a wrench to put it on. Other than that it appears to be an almost exact copy of the Thermo Valve.

Does the XS Scuba valve use the same rebuild parts as a Thermo or does it have its own? I ask because I already have a couple of thermos and the two blue steel. If I start adding even more brands finding parts might become more of a chore.

there are some older valves that are really thick, front to back. The newer ones don't have this problem. If you're diving yoke you need to be sure before the trip that your reg fits.

Are you saying the newer blue steel valves are thinner more like the Thermos?

Hmm, my 2 year old atomic fits over my Blue Steel valve with no problem. However, what you note is often the case with many older yoke regs. I believe this is also the case with some yokes and Thermo valves. This "problem" with older yokes is well known.

I just bought a Faber, and my valve is pretty thick.

I just bought a new Faber FX-100 & my Scubapro regs fit fine. Puff has both older & newer Fabers. The older ones will not take a Scubapro yoke. The new ones will with ease.

and it's not just older yoke. My Mk5 is 30 years old. The Mk11 my wife dives is 2 years old. Neither will fit on his older tanks valves.

We had a situation in the shop I work in where a student bought 2 Blue Steel HP 100's at a store in the Keys and brought them back to find his new regs didn't work on his new tanks. Big bummer! 'Couple of thermo valves later he was fine, but it was a bummer!
