Yeah, I'm pretty sure I just saw one. Though the colour was blue, the claws were rimmed with light brown. 20' of water or so at Mill Cove, NS (near Halifax). No camera. No way of capturing it (though if I did, as a non commercial lobsterman in Maritime Canada they could confiscate my dive gear and my car --this is not New England or Florida!). They say one in 2 million are blue, and there have been news articles about them here. There were no other "normal" (ie. greenish) colors--just the dark blue with light trim on claws. Maybe the 2nd time in 11 years I saw something in NS where I kicked myself for being without the camera. This guy was doing the usual thing looking at me in his sand-dug hole. I only saw 2 other lobsters on that 44 min. dive. Ironically, just down the road there are tons of lobsters at times.

Blue is a not uncommon genetic variant among lobsters. For many years the state of Massachusetts had a lobster hatchery on Martha's Vineyard island. Virtually all the lobsters they produced and released were selectively bred to be blue. I visited the hatchery often (GF worked there) when I spent summers on the Vineyard while in college. I remember seeing hundreds of thousands of blue baby lobsters swirling in cylindrical grow-out tanks.

No pictures or video, it didn't happen!!!!

agilis, Easy to believe. With my number of dives and years, one in 2 mil. ulikely. One lobsterman here caught 2 the same day. So what's the 1 in 2 mil thing anyway?
BurhanMuntasser: Jeez, that's what they said at the shop!

aquariums love those odd colored lobsters, and state those numbers. Another reason for my to get a camera for next dive gear.

Did it look like this guy?
