Blackbeard's Rentals???

Hi All - I'm headed out on a Blackbeard's cruise in October, and I am one of those divers who has a toddler (which means I have limited money) that faces the tough choice - dive gear or dive trips. Usually the later wins.

I am debating renting gear from my local shop which means I have to lug it to the Carribean and back, or from Blackbeard's where I have no idea of the quality. The only thing I saw on the other threads was something that made it sound like Blackbeard's rentals were basically the odd-ball stuff left behind by other divers.

Has anyone rented from them before or have any idea what their rental gear is like to help guide my decision?

I did Blackbeards 3 1/2 years ago and had to rent a BC. It sucked like no tomorrow. Was the worst piece of c r a p dive gear I have ever used. I beg you! Rent from LDS!!

I bring everything I need from wetsuit to bc, regs, fins, mask, you name it! The point is, you can bring what you need and still be under the 50lb weight limit. And you don't need much as far as clothes since it'll still be warm in October. T-shirts, shorts, towel, and something warm to wear at night.

You should bring heavy duty PLASTIC clips to hang stuff with. I made the mistake of bringing metal clips that rusted in an hour.

Because of the airline bag limits, I rented one in early August & they rented me a new Scubapro BC.

I purchased two week long trips on Blackbeards for this Fall - Sept to Dec. 15 and my dive buddy can't make it.

So now I will sell one or both of them for $699 (each).
