This was shot in Lembeh, Indonesia. These guys are all over the place. One time I found this incredible Ambon Scorpion fish, was getting my shot set up and then this giant cloud of silt hits and it was these guys.

Good idea, we go back to Raja Ampat in January and if we run into them there I will have to give it a try.

We have these same catfish in the Red Sea. As far as I understand these are the juveniles. I have never seen the adults during the day. I see them at night up under the nooks and crannies of the reef. Unlike the juveniles I observe them to be shy, solo and avoid being in open water. Also they are a dark mud color without the lines seen on the juveniles.

Also, advice for those who will listen. I remember reading that both the juveniles and the adults are poisonous (the whiskers that give them their name).
