Hi All, I am off to Bali tomorrow and have not been in the water for 6 months. I use back button focus a lot on land in my OMD-EM5 but it seems I am short a function button, as one needs to be assigned to big fish/little fish because the flash needs to be down in an Olympus housing and still fire. This leaves me without BBF.

Is there another setup that allows me to have bbf and big fish/ little fish?

Think I fixed it. Set bf/lf to down button which allows me to have MF, AEL-AFL, and Magnify set to the main buttons.

NOTE: Have to press and hold bf/lf until MF comes back to screen.

Any smarter ideas welcome.

I am not sure I understand precisely what you are doing. I have the OMD-EM5 Mk II and I do not tend to use the back button focus technique. I do have MF assigned to the down button and if I want to lock focus I simply activate MF which locks focus for me until I switch from MF back to autofocus. I tend to use this for macro work. I do not need to assign a button for the flash on my camera. If I was going to use back button focus I think I would choose mode 3 for S-AF in the AF/MF - AEL/AF menu and then use the AEL/AFL function which could be assigned anywhere for back button focusing. I do not see why you would need to assign buttons to both AEL/AFL and MF. On my camera if I am in MF, then back button focusing does not work. I know I am missing something but I thought I would share my approach which may or may not be of any assistance to you.

Hi From Bali, thanks for the reply. Got it to work but have not used it as we did some very small macro in some current and BBF is handy if you are stable in the water.

If you want to use BBF then assign the BF/LF to down arrow and then press and hold it for about 5 sec and it returns to MF but the flash still fires. It is useful as you focus once then move the housing back and forth to get focus and stops the lens from hunting for focus.
