Hello,

This is my second post on the boards and just getting into diving. My wife and I are having such a great time with this.

Anyway, we got a Canon WP-DC70 housing for our SD500 and would like to get a strobe for it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would look at the Inon D2000, the Ikelite DS-51, or the S&S YS-25.

The first two will be of more use to you if/when you graduate to a camera with more manual control, but all will serve nicely.

My wife has the sd500 and is using a Reefmaster SL-960D SeaLife External Flash... You will leave the diffuser that your housing came with ON and you will need to attach the optical trigger. This is fairly straighforward, you put the housing on the tray of the strobe, and run an optical wire in front of your built-in flash. She has been taking great pictures ever since...

Steven, can you say what settings you use on the camera? I have a very similar setup but the external flash with the optical cord doesn't seem to be syncing. When both flashes go off, the pics are underexposed or very dark. Guessing you need to tell the camera that there is an external strobe but haven't figured out how to do that yet (i.e. haven't made a crease in the manual yet). Thanks

The settings inside the strobe are 0 to 4.. She has her setting on the strobe set to number 2. Play with the strobe's intensity settings, starting at the lowest setting and moving upward as you need to go. She has not played much with the setting.. -She uses macro with flash in manual shooting mode with focus set to center.
