Was wondering what some thoughts are on where the best shore diving is in the state and why you like your spot? Thanks guys

Blue Heron Bridge: read this thread and look at the pictures and that will tell you everything..... http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/florida-diving/386645-blue-heron-bridge-trolls.html

Scuba Jenny can probably tell you about some additional sites in SE Florida as well.

Some of the open water springs like Devil's Den and Blue Grotto can be fun if you are looking for something different.

Plenty of spots/entry points in South FL but I usually shore dive Pompano Beach off of 8th, 6th, 4 street or around that area. Limited parking spaces but not too crowded. Like it because the Drop Off is the only reef that resembles the reefs further out (with lots of sea life). Not too close to the beach but not too far away either.

+1 (actually I'd say +100) for Blue Heron Bridge. Instead of me saying anything just google images from BHB dives. yup....it's amazing and yup....pretty much every day is!

we have some interesting areas here on the treasure coast (vero beach to Stuart) with some historically significant wrecks in 20 or so feet of water.

Thanks guys. Land locked here in Colorado and would like to be by the ocean so looking at possibilities and places. Good shore diving is high on my list of factors. Thanks for your input.

i like lauderdale by the sea........easy access to the beach and the reef is close to the shore and far from the shore... depending on how you feel or want to swim that day.

We dove the east side yesterday evening and found light current going east on the snorkel trail and heavier current going north still on the incoming tide. Saw lots of stuff, and still more stuff! My Suunto said it was 86 degrees, but dropped to 84 midway thru the dive. Night dives are going tonight and tomorrow night--Dive On!

Here is a late 1800's natural shipwreck, great for snorkeling...or scuba....and not far off the beach....in about 15 feet of water.
Downside for beach diving, is that you pretty much have to walk to the point of the beach it is off of, all the way from the Inlet...the homeowners by the entry point, don't want the public crossing through their property to get to the beach. For snorkeling, not such a big deal...but I would tow a large torpedo float or large flag.
