Hey Guys;
I Have A Mares Abyss Reg Set, Also An Abyss Titanium Spare Reg Both Yoke, And Also A Dive Rite Hurricane Din Reg. I'm Going Into Tech Diving With Doubles, And Deco Bottles, My Questions Are What Do You Think About The Regs I Have, And What Are Your Opinions One The Apeks Xtx200 Status Regs. And What's A Good Price For These. I Want To Use The Apeks Regs For The Doubles, And Trying To Decide What Regs To Use For Stage Bottles. One With 50% Oxygen And One With 100% Oxygen. I Know This Is A Lot But Your Input Is Important Especially You Tech Guys. Thanks In Advance, Dan

sorry about the caps, the caps button was on, and once you submit a reply it changes the first letter on every word to a capitol

I have always had a hard time getting Mares parts. My shop is not a Mares dealer, but we have several "sources" for Mares service kits. Every time we order some it takes forever and a day for them to come. Were we dealing with only one shop, I could see where we were very low on that shop's priority list, but it's the same with both shops.
I think (and this is only my personal opinion) that Mares is going the way of Dacor and poor product support is only the first manifestation of it.

I know nothing of the Apeks and DR regs, but they're supposed to be good regs and I think you'll be ok with them. You want DIN fittings for tech stuff anyway, so it's a good time to make paperweights out of the Mares stuff.

First of all, if you trust him or her, for advice ask your Trimix instructor (for you really have no need for two deco bottles unless you are diving Trimix). I have no personal experience with Mares or Dive Rite regs. But given what you’ve got; I’d convert your Mares regs to DIN, and use those for your back gas (I’ve dived with people with Mares regs on backgas, and the hose routing seems to work well). Whatever you do, do not use the titanium reg on a deco bottle. Titanium and O2 do not mix. Titanium has been known to catch fire with high levels of O2. I’d use the Dive Rite reg for one of your deco bottles. I personally would avoid the Status Apeks regs. I’m a big fan of Apeks regs (I actually own 6 sets of Apeks regs; 5 DS4s and a DST for first stages and a variety of TX and ATX 40s and 50s for second stages). The Status however is an overpriced gimmick. One should not rely on the regulator to tell you the IP is out of wack, or that the reg needs servicing. Get a cheap IP gauge, and have your regs serviced when they are not working like they should. - Kirk

thanks guys, the only reason for the status regs is because they just happen to come that way, what is a good price on just plain xtx200's, and thank you for the info about the titanium abyss

Hose length and routing is determined by what diving you are planning on; and what other equipment you are going to deploy. First stage design determines how easy it is to route the hoses the best way for you.

You may wish to think this through like building a system before you buy.

Have fun with it.

thanks, where in florida are you located

For whatever it is worth...all DIN fittings

Primary Regulator on doubles (trimix) Poseidon Extreme Deep 90 (7' hose)
Secondary Reg. on doubles - Poseidon Jetstream/Odin
Deco Regs - OMS O2 Clean and Mares Rebel Nitrox O2 clean. The OMS I got at a shop for like 120 dollars and the Mares was 200. You don't have to spend a fortune on high performance regulators for deco bottles as they are going to be used usually at 70' or less.
