I know this has probably been asked a thousand times, but I'm looking for suggestions for a livaboard in January. I'm looking to get away from the brutal New England winter, and I'm tenatively thinking Thailand, but before I book anything I'd like to check into some other places.

Hard to know what your parameters are from your post. How about Komodo, Indonesia?

Komodo is top class. Liveaboards are the way to go here - can't really get to see much of the park from a resort. Here - colour is the thing - some sites ridiculously colourful - with loads of fish. Other highlights are mad swimthrough sites like Pillarsteen, seeing endemic things like the sea apple - awe-inspiring night dives and of course visiting the Komodo dragons.

As far as recommendations go you will probably hear a hundred different stories from a hundred different divers so get an idea of your budget, have a look through your range of Indonesia Liveaboards and then talk to someone who can advise you on your best choice.

Have a great time!

that all depends on your budget and what you want to see! Since it says you are in the NE USA, airfare and traveltime, I would consider doining the new Nekton itinerary to Puerto Rico/St. Croix. Nekton Diving Cruises - Comfort, Stability, Worldclass Diving For singles, it is a great boat as they usually have several and they tend to buddy up for diving and hanging out from Day 1. Very easy as a single.

If price isn't a consideration, I would look at Palau or Fiji. It might be hard to get reservations for Jan though as that is peak season for them and boats may be full already. Aggressor Fleet | The ultimate in live-aboards since 1984 or Big Blue Explorer Scuba Diving Liveaboards in Palau Micronesia
These may not be as easy as a single, just a guess.

2 weeks til Palau on a liveaboard!

I went on Blackbeard's last year in the Bahamas. While not as exotic as other locations, there were single people on our boat (myself included) and we quickly hit it off. I was the third wheel with a married couple and was totally in demand as a dive buddy. The crew was awesome and the meals were fantastic.

Lots of posts about Blackbeard's here if you use the search. You have to be all about the diving as this is definately not a luxury cruise. The conditions are definately, shall we say rustic? But I think that tends to attract people who are there for the diving rather than the "resort dwellers". And the price is right. I'll definately be back.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm actually looking for something a bit more exotic. Blackbeards style accomodations sounds apealing. Anyone know of anything like that, but more exotic.
