We are in the process of planning our big 2006 family vacation. It usually consists of about 20 folks with parents and kids ranging from 7 years old to 17 year olds. We have stayed at the El Cozumeleno for the last 3 years and really enjoyed, but we are thinking about trying something new.

Some of our party likes to hang out at the resort by the pool, some like to dive, some like to go into town to shop and eat out. The El Cozumeleno has worked pretty well for that for the last few years, but we were wondering if there is a better spot. Maybe something more accessible to diving as more and more of our party is getting into diving every year we go. Nice shore diving for the younger folks would be nice as well.

We are looking at the late June time frame. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Fiesta American is a good blend for most. I thought the food was at least adequate and some was pretty good. It is a $6 taxi ride to town, which is much less than the Occidental properties. Easy pick up for diving at their dock. The FA will be much quieter during the day than El Coz because quite of few guests will have left in the morning to go diving.

Hotel Cozumel was acceptable. Convenient dive op through a tunnel under the road, no traffic to deal with; if it is open yet, I expect it is. Food is marginal but convenient, especially breakfast and a burger by the pool between morning and afternoon dives. Pool area was very nice even by NA standards. Well stocked gift . toiletries shop.

Jarrett:
Thanks for the info so far. Any others?

Hey Jarrett...have you thought about a couple of condos? El Cantil has 4 bedroom units that sleep 8 to 10. I know some of the units have two beds in some of the rooms and some also have murphy beds for additioanl sleeping. The new building is scheduled to open on April 1st, and there will be even some larger units there.

Located right at the southern edge of town so walking anywhere is very convenient, very nice pool are, dock for boat pick-up, full kitchen and ammenities, internet, ocean front, right across the street from Chedraui...and IMO...the very nicest place to stay on the island.

I sent more info to Clay including a link to the website. It's definitely something to consider.

Otherwise, I would recommend Fiesta Americana or Hotel Cozumel to meet everyones needs of all-inclusive, pool, convenience to diving and town, and activities for the kids and non-divers. The further south you go...the more of that you lose.
