Really, I don't want to start a religious war, but I'm going to have to buy a new camera soon, and would like something that will serve me well when I can afford a housing/strobe, so...

Which EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) camera in the Micro Four Thirds format do you consider the best overall for underwater photography, and why? I'm mostly a SoCal diver, but will also be diving in the tropics.

(I know, I know... this could get ugly, but if instead I just got facts and perspectives, stated simply and without reference to other folks' idiocy, that'd be helpful. )

A lot will depend on what you like to shoot. For macro you are probably best off with the Olympus because the Oly 50 is such a great macro lens. Sigma has announced a 4/3 50 macro but I haven't seen any pics taken with it yet. Secondly do you want video and if so what quality. Finally you probably should wait a few months for all the housing permutations to become more real. If you need one right now I would go the olympus route. Nice housings and a zen dome so you can get both WA and macro setups.

I would like to have the option of shooting video, but it isn't my first priority. Haven't seen an EVIL/Micro Four Thirds camera that didn't offer the option of shooting at least video clips, which I think would be fine for my purposes. It's mostly about sharing/preserving the memories. :D

I wouldn't want to eliminate macro, but it isn't all I plan to do, either (the reason I specified EVIL is so if the housing allows/has different ports, I don't have to choose one thing).

The Micro 4/3 cameras that are available are all good. They're so close in quality that the photographer will make the difference. Especially since you can mix-and-match body and lens manufacturers. That being said, right now there are probably more housing options for the Olympus.
