best deal on 36 exposure ASA 100 film

I was surprised to find very little 36 exposure ASA 100 film around..and that which I did find was expensive. Is there a place I can buy this online??
I have to admit that all the places I tried were Wallgreens and Target stores.

I was thinking about looking for 36 exp rolls of 400 ASA print film and did see something of interest in a catalog from B&H photo (?) of New York. I have not yet had a chance to do the math, but if it is hard to find, maybe it is worth it. I think they have a website but don't know the address offhand.

...all the good deals and multi-rolls of Fujichrome I took to Honduras diving were 24 exp. and that's one of the two things I want to change: get a strobe and use 36 exp instead of 24 to eliminate opening the camera as often.

So, I'm interested in where you can get bulk 36's. Used to be able to buy 100' rolls of film and load your own cans, but that's kind of a pain, huh? Well, three things - take more film, too!

I found the B&H website: try http://www.bhphotovideo.com. I found what I was looking for and placed an order to check it out-- we'll see. I have an MX-10, and the less I have to open it to replace film on a boat, the better I like it. Besides, why do the neatest, most photogenic creatures appear near the end of the 24 exposures? Will they now wait until frame 33 to show up?

I've bought 36 exp. film from them several times and been satisfied. They aren't the friendliest folks in the world and you better know EXACTLY what you want but I got what I ordered in 4 days and the film was fresh.

The shop that processes my underwater pics told me Kodak has stopped making 100 iso film.

i use 100 film. i have been told that it is the best for blowing up pictures, is that true? I get 4X6" pictures, and have the best ones blown up to 8.5 X 12. I have been told that faster film gets grainy when blown up.

What IS the best film to enlarge the pictures?

I have purchased 36 exposure 100 speed film through B&H and Helix photo in Chicago for decent pricing without a problem. You can also find it at your local photo store.

Kodak will not discontinue 100 speed film. They may discontinue consumer grade 100 speed film sold through mass markets.

The slower the film, the less the grain, the better an enlarged photo will appear.

100 ft rolls of film are still available. HOWEVER, that being said, I have not found canisters to match the film. Todays cameras use the film canister to identify film speed and number of pics. The "code" could probably be replicated using an old canister of the same speed/number as a reference and electrical tape as the mask. Not sure that it is worth the hassle, especially with needing dark rooms (or at least a changing bag) and all. The film is probably one of the least expensive expenditures on your dive trip.

To further expound on what scorpiofish said, the grain is the size of the photo sensitive ingredients used to make the film. The finer these particles are the longer it takes to expose them... hence the "slower" film. 400ASA film can be used up to about 10.5 x12. After that you can see the individual dots quite clearly. There are some additional factors that will also affect grain size. Along with an increase in granularity, a higher ASA will also give you greater contrast. This is not good when you are trying to capture gentle hues and shading in your pics. This is why most portraiture is done with 100ASA or 200ASA.
