The food at the Iberostar is very good...both buffet and specialty restaurant.
I imagine the food at the Grand is just as good or better.
Although I wouldn't return there because of recent reviews, some of the best meals I've had in Cozumel were several years ago at the specialty Italian restaurant at the Reef Club !!
In town restaurants are highly overrated. Sure the food is good at some and I've had very good meals. But it's so-so at many others. I believe the holiday spirit, atmosphere and Cozumel ambience trick the taste buds. Ordinary meals often receive rave reviews.

I think you'll find that the vast majority of people on here think that the food at the RC is horrible and the food in town is wonderfull.Len:
So your position is that the Italian food in Mexico is better than the Mexican food?

James, perhaps you should re-read my post. You seem to have completely misunderstood.
My wife and I have stayed at the Iberostar several times. We have never been disapointed by the food. Breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner all are great.

That must be it. I was wondering the same thing...
I couldn't eat food that had flies on it (if I saw it) but I agree with someone else. I'm going for the diving not really for the food.
But then if meals cost a lot I'd expect them to be pretty good.

My husband and I stayed at the FiestAmericana Aug 2002.
Breakfast was good.
Lunch was terrific.
Dinner was rather good.
Decent location.
Quiet.
Nice property.
Pier with easy access to trim tanks.

We stayed at the Occidental Grand for part of our week in Sept., I was very impressed by the food, all the buffets had different things on them every day, not just the same old thing day in and day out. the food quality was very good and everything was fresh every day, no left overs and we were there on a slow week.
the reservation only restarants was very good also, we only ate at the mexican one, but ate there twice. my wife had a shrimp dish that she said was one of the best shrimp dishes she had every had, not just in Mexico but anywhere, and belive me she eats a lot of shrimp!
Our only other AI experiance was at what is now the Park Royale and it we horrible!! they were giving us canned fruit for breakfast, CANNED FRUIT IN MEXICO?!! and the meat that was on the lunch and dinner buffets was literally unidentifiable, you didn't know what it was and it was in a very greasy nasty sauce, that was 10 years ago and we have avoided AI's every sence. Now we have a long list of restarants down there that we have to go to so usually stay at La Ceiba, the only reason we did OG was because we were meeting some friends down there at that is where they were going to stay, and I must say we were very impressed and would stay there again if we were every going to do AI again.
