I'm trying to find the hotel with the best AI food. We stayed at the Hotel Cozumel the last time and it was great for diving: easy rinse facilities on the beach, easy access dive pier, plenty of hooks/places available to hang gear on balcony. The AI was very convenient and definitely the way to go since we did 4 dives a day, morning/afternoon.

The only complaint was the food was sub par. They tried hard but just wasn't very tasty. Anyone know of other .

I'm looking for:
-south of town so Dive with Martin can pick up
-pier available onsite
-rinse tanks available on site
-as nice or nicer than Hotel Cozumel

I hear Iberostar was good on food but they didn't allow people to pick up at their docks?

How is the food at the Fiesta Americana?

Any ideas how much the new Plaza Las Glorias will cost?

I don't know that you'll find particularly GOOD food at any of the AI's. Most do the buffet thing. We stayed at El Cozumeleno a few years back (north of town) and, although it was a beautiful and clean hotel, the food really was mediocre at best.

No matter which AI you choose, I would just do breakfast there (& lunch if you're not out on a dive) and then go into town for dinner. There are some fantastic restaurants in Cozumel (Guido's, La Choza, Casa Denis, French Quarter, etc.). The other recommendation is to take advantage of the AI's reservations-only restaurant. That food tends to be better than the buffet faire.

What's AI food?

I posted this info in another thread last week regarding the Cozumel Palace (formerly Plaza Las Glorias):

FYI - just priced land only with Worry Free Vacations (MLT), January 15-22, price is $2494.00, that's roughly $356/night.

We did the AI at the Fiesta Americana in February. Breakfast and lunch were good, dinner was just OK, with the exception of the sit down restaurant upstairs. You can order off the menu for breakfast and lunch, however the staff doesn't volunteer that info. We ended up going into town on 3 evenings, really glad we did. So many great restaurants to choose from. But it was nice to have the convenience of eating breakfast in an open air restaurant, looking out over the ocean, just steps from the dive shop and dock. We ate lunch there too after a 2 tank morning dive while our gear was drying.

Once they've got your money, in advance, for the week, no refunds, they have less reason to please than others. There may be some good ones, but not as likely.

I got upset over table service at the Reef Club (talk about bad food!!) a year ago, walked back in the kitchen looking for help, ande - they didn't even cook it there. It was delivered, for at least some meals. And it was really bad.

Tried to do the pool side lunch, but the only food that didn't have flies on it was luke warm. :puke:

I have stayed at many AI from couples to iberostar to lesser hotels. You get what you pay for. I have never been disapointed with the iberostar chain. I have stayed at two of there resorts in playa tucabn and parsiareo?? and there food was as good or better then the restaraunts in town. With that said i have stayed at some lessor AI's and like others found breakfest and lunch good and dinner better off site.
I dont think you could go wrong with the OC Grand or Iberstar if you want good food.
I will give you a trip report about the OC when I get back from ten nights there 8th-18th. With the groups I go with we always seem to make up any let down in the food area, buy hitting the resort were it hurts are bar tab.. Remember AI means all drinks are included too!

We did Fiesta Americana last year, and it was amazing food. For dinner we ate upstairs the entire week (I assumed this is where everyoen ate dinner??) and I have to say, this was the best AI I've ever been to. (And I really am a picky eater) I agree with scubagal RE breakfast and lunch, but we knew about the menu from day 1, but we did have ask what the score was, as it wasn't volunteered.

Great place. I'd stay there again. Only draw back is, it's a little out of the way to go to town. (Too far to walk).

We usually go AI for convience. IMO the food at most of the hotels are fair at best. Nothing as good as the ole USA. I go to dive not eat so if I can just get fuel to dive that is all I need. ;)

Sorry I cannot answer your question but I have not stayed at every hotel on the island to compare, plus it probably changes from time to time. BTW we have for the last 3 times stayed at the Hotel Cozumel. The 1st time food was ok the second time good, the third time ok. :ne_nau:

The Occidental Grand has five restaurants, great food, and fatastic grounds and facilities. However, it'll cost you! All the best diving is right there off shore, but it's a long way from town.
