Hello:

Since H2O is not available for residents in PR, (and a thread about lost equipment while getting on the boat has brought some doubts about them also) and DEPP's "mysterious loss" definition smells too fishy.. I've been doing some searching for other companies that provide this type of insurance without luck (found some UK companies that I dont think will cover a US resident - living in PR)

Im looking one mainly for the 'camera flood' benefit. It seemed H2O was alright but since "Unfortunately, due to licensing reasons of the carrier, we can only insure DAN members who reside in the US excluding Alaska and South Dakota" :

Can anyone provide a link of other company(s)??

thanks

Like many members on SB, we've had DEPP cover our gear for several years, and I find your reference to "mysterious loss" a little baffling. Can you elaborate?

We've had to make one claim to DEPP, which was handled is a very timely & professional manner. So I'm quite interested in your aversion to this underwriter.

Well, maybe the term "fishy" wasnt quite clear. I was referring to this thread:

http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=47976&page=1&pp=15

and more specifically the entry of:

Cdiver2 wrote
"The thread in its entirety. Someone else looked at DEPP and posted that they had the same clause * MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE * . Go with whatever company you wish but dont be supprised when they wont cover because you lost it whilest diving."

In D.E.P.P.'s policy, the only part that refers to "mysterious dissapearance" is in:

"Part VI Exclusions
(go to the last one)
X. Any claim that results directly or indirectly from mysterious disappearance."

With "fishy" I think I really meant "shallow" (as in not that much more explanations or definitions). And, after reading the post mentioned above, I was looking to see if there were other options that I could compare these to.

Btw, is there a thread related to the one claim to DEPP that you refer to? Was the equipment "lost" at sea or stolen? Was there evidence of proof of robbery?

thanks,

Sub as I understand it from the aforementioned thread and contact with DAN.
The claim with DAN was denied because it fell in the mysterious loss bracket.
Later in the thread someone else posted they had gone to DEPP for insurance and found they had the same clause.

Most UK companys will not cover anyone in the US. Even the BSAC members who have insurance with BSAC are told they are not covered whilest in the US.
