Does anyone know if this book changed much between the 4th and 5th (current) edition?

The preface to the 5th edition sums the changes up well but you may have to buy the book to get that. Dr. Mike Bennett wrote a nice review of it after it came out though, and it's linked below.

Hello,

The Bennett and Elliott series is interesting because there tend to be a lot of changes between editions. Partly this is just updating of material, but sometimes there are new authors of chapters who bring a different perspective and knowledge set. There are a lot of differences between 4 and 5, though both are useful books. One thing that is important to understand is that B&E has not been updated since 2003. It is now an old book and although change is slow in diving medicine, it is now out of date on many subjects. The most up to date textbook in the area is Diving and Subaquatic Medicine (published 2015). Before I am accused of gratuitous self promotion I made contributions to both B&E5 and DSM. DSM is written more in a style likely to be intelligible to non medical / non scientist divers.
