Submit your film to the Beneath the Waves Film Festival 2010!!

Beneath the Waves Film Festival
Benthic Ecology Meeting 2010
10-13 March, Wilmington, NC
University of North Carolina Wilmington
Registration begins November 1, 2009

Announcing an exciting new dimension to a scientific conference: in addition to the usual posters and oral presentations, BEM 2010 will host short films! Creators and directors ranging from professionals to amateur and student filmmakers are invited to submit their entries on topics related to marine biology and conservation. The competition will take place in the beautiful new Lumina Theater in the Fisher Center on the campus of UNC Wilmington. This is a great chance to come to a scientific conference, show your film and interact with a large group of active researchers and scientists.

CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSIONS:
Length: All submissions must be shorts, 15 minutes or less.
Themes: Marine biology, marine research or marine conservation. We will have three categories for competition:
1) Documentary: informative with a message
2) Educational: informative with no agenda
3) Humor: just for fun

Registration and costs: Registration will begin 1 Nov 2009 and will close 15 Jan 2009. Film festival entrants will attend the conference with all other participants and pay the same registration fees (yet to be determined). Check this website for more info on registration: UNCW College of Arts & Sciences: Biology and Marine Biology - News & Events

Submission of films: After registering on-line and providing their information, film festival entrants will be asked to send a COPY of their film on CD-R or DVD-R by mail to: Austin Gallagher; c/o Prof. Joseph Pawlik; UNCW Center for Marine Science; 5600 Marvin Moss Lane; Wilmington, NC 28409 USA

Judging and prizes: Winning entries will be judged in each of the three categories by a panel of scientists and filmmakers. Prizes to be announced at a later date.
