Hi,

I'm booked on a Carnival Cruise stopping in Belize in May. Just wondering if I should go with the ship excursion or any private operators to use?

Thanks,

ScubaJohn71

The ship's excursion here is one of the few I recommend. Hugh Parkey does a good job. Bit of a cattle boat, but convenience is good. If you'd like to investigate independent (you'll have to tender to shore), try Sea Sports Belize.

Ok, thanks. So the ship excursion picks you up right at the ship? So Belize is a tender port too?

Have do a web search to see if I can find any independent dive operators.

Thanks,

Yes, Hugh Parkey will pick you up and drop you off right at the ship. Belize is a very shallow port - the ships are a couple miles offshore. Not a big deal to tender in to use Sea Sports Belize (they're right near the tender docks), but it's more convenient not to have to.

both are well respected, Sea sports will take you with a min. 4 divers that day, hugh's group tends to be in the 20's plus range....

Exactly. However, some days Sea Sports doesn't make it to 4, even with several ships in port :( (Speaking from experience, here.)

Hugh Parkey is a great operation. We had 23 divers last spring and never felt crowded at all. My wife and I were the most experienced divers in the crowd, and we had the boat's resident instructor dive with just us as a guide. I would definitely dive with them again.
