I know there is a big cost difference in what you shoot and the GoPros but like most things in life, you get what you pay for and it's not even close. Nice job as usual Ron.

Thanks. I love my GoPro. What it does for it's size and price is amazing. It's the perfect camera for most divers and casual UW video shooting. Just thought it would be good to remind people the GoPro does have it's weaknesses. The jump to a higher level system is very big in both price and size, but also video quality.

Great video Ron, sorry for flooding the board with Gopro stuff :D They still are a long way away from a dedicated High quality camera and housing setup like you have shown. Your setup is definatly more professional and produces very professional quality results, beginners in UW video may get a little overwhelmed and over tasked using such a setup so its best to start off with some of the little cams I think.

I have been looking into a second main camera but size and price is the main issue for me atm, I think the gopro and other similar cameras are great for the casual diver to get into underwater videography. For what I do the gopro is fine and its amazing the sort of quality you can get from a camera setup that costs much less then just a proper UW housing for one of the proper cams.

It teaches the basics and I think many of those that start with these cams will eventually move on to the more professional type setups, I'm sure I will at some point.

But the Gopros are still great to just bring along on the dive without the hassle of a big camera setup to lug around which can get a little awkward if the conditions turn a little ugly, its pretty much like a DSLR vs a little portable cam. DSLR and full video cameras produce the best results but just are a hassle to bring with you everywhere you go. The small cameras and even some cell phones these days are handy because you can always have one around if you want to capture a spur of the moment thing.

Hey Ron, what lights are you using? I have the Sunray 1000's with the battery pods and they work great but I sure like the new lights that L&M have out that are lights and batteries all in one. You lose the control function of the handles I think but that's no big deal really. The Sola 2000's look pretty sweet.

Very nice video and *mad* critter finder skills too. Thanks for sharing.

The colors are fantastic; video lights or white balance?

Henrik

It's nice to see an increase in activity in the video section of Scubaboard. The GoPro is a great little camera. All the posts and it's popularity are proof of how good it is. With it's size, there is no reason not to take it on every dive.

Lights ? Technology schmechtology. I used good old fashioned cheap halogen lights. Test tube lamps, big reflectors, battery canister on my hip. LED and HID have the advantage for daytime, but I prefer the warmth of halogen on night dives. Have you noticed the white-ish color of LED and HID lights can look kind of cold, harsh and scientific ? Daytime no matter what lights you use, you are basically limited to closeup/macro.

Manual white balance on all shots.

Amazing stuff as usual, Ron. You are the Pro that we all aspire to be!
That night squid action at the end from Belize is still some of my favorite footage you have shot over the years. Very very good stuff there that most divers never get to see. Thanks for sharing!

I am still debating whether I get rid of my mid-sized rig in favor of a small one... looking at ebay, I just wonder if anyone would buy it.

Thanks Robin. That is an incredibly nice and generous compliment.

Being in the right place at the right time is the key. Having a high quality system is the other piece. Recording the footage is really not that difficult.

I have been very very fortunate to have the time, funds and luck to shoot good footage. The squids night dive is in my top 5 scuba experiences. They were with us for 15 minutes and would have stayed longer, but we were low on air.
