Greetings everyone,
I am planning a one time, trip to Belize this spring and would appreciate input from anyone who has been there before.
I would like to primarily do some wall diving and blue water pelagic dives. Any recommendations or suggestions regarding dive sites and dive operators would be greatly appreciated ; as well as any other heads up you can give me.
Thanks in advance.......
Rod

I have been there twice and used the Aggressor Fleet both times. IMO a live aboard is the best way to do Belize.

I've only been there once, but I have to agree with Packrman: if you're going to dive the reefs, a liveaboard is the best way to go.

I've never dived a liveaboard here but I've lived here for 17 years. The outer atholls, Turneffe, Lighthouse and Glovers have the best wall dives. One of my favorite spots on the planet is the Elbow of Turneffe. Very fishy spot.
What do you mean by "blue water pelagic" dives? In the spring you can do whale shark dives at Gladden Spit. Full moons of March, Apr, May. Snapper spawns and lot of action.
I've done blue water free diving for wahoo here but it's pretty boring if you don't find fish.

I like this place. Glover's Atoll Resort, Belize

The owners are badass water people. Good fisherman too.

Two of the better dives of my life were on the Lighthouse Reef. Turneffe was pretty nice as well.

Thanks Hank, that's exactly what I was looking for

On the live-aboard angle, I enjoyed the Sun Dancer 2 (a.k.a. Belize Aggressor IV) a lot (trip report).

For completeness, let's also mention Stoo's Trip Report - Huracan Diving.

As you've probably noticed, the better diving is farther from the mainland, whereas the mainland has rainforest and Mayan ruins, topside attractions with considerable appeal.

Richard.

I've been 3 times on the Sun Dancer (one of those on a special itinerary that went south for the whale sharks - and didn't find them, but that's another story.) I think a liveaboard or one of the dive-oriented atoll resorts is your best best if you're in Belize mainly to dive, and want walls. I've not done Ambergris, but I've always had the impression it's a good place to relax and do some decent diving, but not the best of Belize.

Simple question......why are Belize dive shops almost double in price compared to other places...Florida, Mexico, Roatan?
