Get there NLT 9 AM so you can get a good parking spot. Park on Datura and go out from there. Stay away from the pier...

There's a giant parking lot north of the pier about the same distance from the pier as Datura is south of the pier. The current generally runs south to north, so you can start your dive against the current and drift back. Go out past the end of the pier. If the current is backwards, ie, eddying, I've found that you can drift back near the beach.

one foot in front of the other until you enter the water.. enter water until waist and put fins on. Bring dive flag. stay at least 100 ft away from the pier. listen to earlier posts and get there early. bring quarters---lots of them!

If I remember correct, the meter goes up to 4 hours, but that's plenty of time. I know I have been there at 7:30, and by 8:00 all the spots are full.
