But more likely your suit has not compressed, you have air in it
I never thought about that. If this is the case, how do you get the air out of your suit? Do you just have to stay in the water for a while?

Sometimes getting vertical for a moment will empty air. Your clothing, loose fitting clothing (under), can retain significant air.

Weighting is not a contest, you need what you need. Time and technique will whittle in down.

Not saying this is a reason, but I have seen divers significantly over weighted but could not descend because they were trimmed vertical and actually finning/walking to maintain position. This despite their claiming otherwise. They just did not notice being preoccupied with trying to descend :).

My BCD has adjustable shoulder straps, have you tried that?

Also, have you looked at where the tank is located on the back straps?
I don't think I did the adjustable shoulder straps, but how can that help?

Also, how can the positioning of the tank on the straps help?

When I put my BCD on I try to pull the straps as tight as I can on the boat and once I get in the water I give each one a little tug to make sure all the slack is out.

If the tank is too low in the straps it will pull down on the BCD.

Just my experience, yours may be entirely different.
