Has anyone done a bareboat sailing trip in the Cayman's. Any thoughts, leads, etc appreciated.

Charlie

since you said "any thoughts". I'd have to say if you want to do a bareboat charter, there are much better places for that than the Caymans. It's a long sail between GC and LC and CB.

Bare Boat charters are much better suited where you don't have to do long passages and can easily sail between islands. such a the BVI and Abacos.

just a suggestion.

It is about 90 miles from Grand Cayman to the Sister Islands (Brac and LC). That is certainly possible, but a bit of a long slog going upwind if the breeze is from the ENE (as it normally is). It's not so bad if you can hit a time when it is steady from the ESE (more common in summer).

Going anywhere else (Jamaica, Cuba, Swan Islands of Honduras) would be MUCH further.

More importantly, I am not aware of any bareboat charters operating out of Cayman. Few intrepid sailors make their way to our waters as we are well off the beaten path.

If you do come, PLEASE seek local guidance with our boat channels. Much of the coastline of GC is protected by near-shore reefs which could seriously endanger a wayward sailor.

chucksaul,
in the bvi's there are very many shops that provide bareboat service.
there are many things you have to do if y'all go bareboat.
why don't you consider a crewed vessel.
let the crew work and you can help or relax?
regards,
