picked up a used 1st stage on the 'bay. Can anyone give me a pallpark idea of what I can spend on service for the 1st stage? I'm pairing it with a Hog 2nd and Viper Octo.

Thanks,
Jeremy

About $20 to $25 for labor.
Parts will depend on if you put in a new seat (every 2 years is recommended by Mares).
I'd guesstimate $15 without the seat and an additional $20 to $25 with the seat (they're expensive).

I think most techs/shops will also change the 1st stage diaphragm when they change the HP seat (it, along with the HP seat, is not part of the "annual" parts kit).

Personally, I just always change the diaphragm if I have one of my MR-22's opened-up for a service.

It is a little expensive to service the MR-22 (compared to some other regs), but it is a great reg (I have two of them).

Best wishes.

Note to the OP: If it is an "older" MR-22, the tech will upgrade the HP seat to the new Tri-Material seat. The "old" seats had problems with longevity, so Mares changed the material used in the seats a few years ago. All the Mares diaphragm regs can be "retro-fitted" with the improved seats.

.....or you could put in an AquaLung seat. About 1/3 the price of the Mares seat and still an improvement over the old seat.

and the routine question..
Where can I get a rebuild kit for a couple of these??

My "usual source" dried up; I was going to try Scubatoys the next time I needed to rebuild them. What I have heard is that Scubatoys will sell rebuild kits for the regulators they sell, as long as the manufacturer does not specifically order them not to. But I have not tested this policy yet.

There are European sources, but I only have one that I think is selling parts (that I know of):

MARES MAINTENANCE KIT FOR 22/32/16/tp/d16/s40 - €14,00 : Online Dive Store, Online Dive Store

I have not tried them.... I'd give Scubatoys a try first.

My plan was if all else failed, to use Aqualung's HP seat, and "generic" o-rings.... not sure about the diaphragm though... maybe someone else knows if it is a "standard" size used by several diaphragm 1sts, or is unique to Mares (I have no idea).

Best wishes.

that's good with me. Would you happen to have a PN for the seat?

I can use standard O-rings for the rest of the rebuild.

Thanks!!
