We lived close to Guaymas in San Carlos which is where the dive operators go out of. Though not spectacular there is good diving and the most fun to us was diving with the sea lions. It is colder diving until about may so you will want at least a 7mm, during the summer it will be about 80 degrees in the water with 80 degrees of vis.
San Carlos is very nice and has a lot of gringos staying and diving there, lots of different accommodation to choose from and El Mar diving is a good dive op also check out Garys.
