Tuesday
Tuesday was a busy day as we got ready for the first charter of the season out to the islands of the Revillagigedos. Our guests, which included President of the Aggressor Fleet, Wayne Hasson, arrived all safe and with all their luggage in the early part of the afternoon. After our safety briefing and a wonderful meal prepared by our Chef ‘Poncho’ we departed for our 240 mile journey to San Benedicto.

Wednesday
The crossing to San Benedicto was very comfortable with beautiful blue skies. Some guests decided to sleep in and have a late breakfast that was later followed by my dive briefing.

Thursday
We arrived San Benedicto at 1 am. San Benedicto is uninhabited, and when approached at night under little moonlight, it’s slight silhouette is ominous. No reason to worry though since our captain Martin has been in these water before and is very familiar with the area.

Our diving day began at 7 with a briefing by Dillan, one of our 3 dive instructors. We did three great dives on El Canon where our guest saw mantas, school of hammerheads, a silver tip sharks. We had good visibility of about 60’ and the water was warmer than I personally expected with a temperature of 75 degrees.

Friday
Weather conditions on Friday allowed us to move the Baja Aggressor to the northwest side of the island where we had a chance to do three dives on The Boiler. The island of San Benedicto has impressive geology due to it being an inactive volcano. The Boiler is a small site but what it lacks in size it makes up for it in marine life. On my dive, I had two mantas that would leave Tom (our guest) and alone. Tom mentioned he had been trying to get a silhouette of a manta for at least 10 years and he was finally able to get it on this dive. I looked at the results of his silhouette shot which is definitely a keeper and one that he should blow up and frame. The top of The Boiler was had a little surge but there was little or no current to speak of. All of us were able to swim complete circles around pinnacle that makes up The Boiler to observe the different marine life at all the different depths.

Saturday
Early morning on Saturday we departed for Socorro for our usual inspection with the Mexican Navy that occupies the island. Our inspection went smoothly and we were on our way to our dive site by 9:30am. At Cabo Pierce, we were able to get two dives in and our last dive was an exploratory dive along the cliff adjacent to Cabo Pierce. The current there was stronger than at any other dive site thus far so we opted for something a little more conservative for our last dive of the day as the sun was starting to settle. Visibility was about 40-50 feet with a 1-2 degree thermocline. Mantas, a turtle, hammerheads, stingrays, silky sharks, and white tips were some some of the sightings on Cabo Pierce. On the exploratory we saw smaller critters such as several different types of snappers, large trumpet fish, eels, and some neat underwater terrain created by boulders that have fallen from the face of the cliff. There was only a slight current but we chose to conduct the dive as drift dive and covered a good area with little effort.

The weather forecast for Sunday allowed us to make the decision to journey to Roca Partida. We departed Socorro at 7 pm for an all-night crossing to the solitary rock surrounded by nothing but water and lots of marine life.

Sunday
The conditions on Sunday morning could not have been better for our New Years day dives. With visibility of over 100 feet, Roca Partida ended up being one of the favorite sites for the week. White tip sharks literally stacked up on top of one another, silver tips and Galapagos sharks intermingling with a few hammerheads wondering by. The wall that makes up Roca Partida had octopus, scorpion fish, and lots of eels. A humpback whale was in the vicinity all day long. Several guests were able to get great breaching shots.

Monday
Another great day in Roca Partida thanks to Mother Nature cooperating and providing us with exceptional weather. At Roca Partida we experience the coolest water of the week with the temperature getting as low as 72.

Tuesday
Travel day back to San Jose del Cabo. Spent a lot of the afternoon trading pictures and reliving the great dives from the week.

Wednesday
Arrived in San Jose del Cabo.

Thank you all for a wonderful first trip to Socorro!
