My plan is to pick up a DS4/XTX50 from Diveinn in the next few days. I've searched and read about the backup hose length but haven't found the answer.

Can you tell me the length needed for a single tank set-up with the backup worn on a necklace? Diveinn only lists 75cm which at first glance anyway seems too long. Where do I order the right one?

Thanks!

Many people use a 22" hose, and that is what I have always used for a single tank. I have also seen people using a 24" hose. As far as where to order, there are many places online. www.techdivinglimited.com has a large selection of hoses.

A 36" to 40" is the standard length for an octopus, worn under the rh arm and up to the chest with a quick release bungee at the neck.

I am sure the long hose crowd will provide their recommendations, usually a five foot hose if used without a can light and a seven foot hose if used with a can light but I will let them explain all that fuss.

BTW, a second, second stage on a singles rig first stage is not a "backup" but simply an octopus. There is no redundancy so it is not a back up.

The rigging you prefer depends upon your OOA philosophy, will you donate to the OOA diver your second stage and switch to the bungeed second stage or will you donate the octopus and keep your second stage in place?

I thought the word octopus was taboo here unless talking about the actual animal:D Guess that's the DIR crowd. I'm planning the 5 footer around the neck and donating that.

Quick release bungy, whose style is that? I was thinking to just use either zip ties or a double fisherman knot. Probably zip ties.

FTFY.

Fixed That For You

Thanks. Sometimes the bantering about semantics and DIR make me want to get a 7 footer with one end around my neck and the other over a rafter!:D

I think I'll go with a 5 foot for the donor and a 22" for the octopus, safe second, back-up, bungied non redundant one:eyebrow:

Thanks for the help guys.
