I have a back inflation BC, and have added a safety sausage ( both Aqualung) that is intergrated into the over pressure relief valve. This seemed like a good idea, because I'll always have it with me, it deploys quickly and easily, and (I am going to have a camera with me much of the time, in another 10-15 dives) leaves my hands free.

My concern is this, you need to have your BC fully inflated to deploy the safety sausage, and keep it fully inflated. I haven't tried this yet, but it seems like a reciepie for a face dunk.

any comments or thoughts will be appreciated.

I'm not to familiar with these but the way you described it, the overpressure relief valve seems to act like a 1-way valve. So my guess is that you could deflate your bc without the sausage deflating

I saw those back inflate sausages for sale and first thought that it wasn't a bad idea, but after thinking about it, it seems they've over complicated the idea of a saftey sausage.

I'd prefer to have one that is loose so I could wave it back and forth or reach the end of it to stick a light sick into. (but that's just my preference.)

Diving equipment is like woodworking tools......the more things you try to get a tool to do.....the less better it does any one thing. I saw those and kept on going.

JMHO.....rich

You must have one of the first editions of that sausage. My understanding is the second edition is not supposed to deflate if the BC defaltes.

My personal rule: Never buy Version 1.0 (especially MicroSoft), always wait for V2.0 or greater (3.1 if MicroSoft).

I bought the S.O.S from aqualung mine has a one way check valve, once its filled you adjust your buoyancy as you normally would. I don't know I like it works and its an extra safety feature and I don’t get the face dunk that people claim with back inflation.

This actually predates Microsoft. The first version of Oracle was numbered 2.0 because they were afraid their first customer (a government agency) wouldn't be able to get the purchasing approvals to buy a version 1.0 product.

How do you deflate it? What if you have a runaway inflator, and the SOS inflates before you get a chance to disconect the LP hose?
