I am thinking of moving to a BP, maybe Transpac with single tank.
I currently use a Cressi back Jac which I like although I would like a bit more opportunity to customise. I am a recreational diver using 10.5l steel single tank .Are the BP's more comfortable...?

The transpac is a soft bp. If you're going to be doing mostly rec dives, you really can't go wrong with a transpac or the zeagle express tech.

A lot of my dm/instructors use the transpac n mix & match their wings, from oxycheq, dive rite, oms and hollis.

And yes a bp both soft and hard are very comfortable.

Best thing you can do is visit a few diveshops and actually try a few differnt set-ups on. I think you will be surprised they look very uncomfortable but are suprisingly comfortable.

Diverite transpac is popular BP/W the other is the Hollis or Halcyon System which is more expensive then both but IMO is at the top. Halcyon has to single models one is the Eclipse which is the Bsic BP/W system and is great. If you feel you need it they also have a new system called "infinity" it costs about an extra 100.00 and is the same system as the eclipse just with the addition of the Cinch system which is a quick adjust mechanism and the Pad's. There are others like such as HOG/OMS/Hollis that make BP/W system

The Transpac is a very versatile soft backplate BC. You can use it for single tank diving, with double tank diving (adaptor kit, but a hard plate BC is better for this), for sidemount diving or for rebreather diving. But the main thing about the Transpac is that it was designed to haul a heavy load in relative comfort. It carries the load's weight more like a mountaineering backpack then a typical BC, and that's why Dive Rite invented it - to carry heavy loads when they do some really funky cave diving that requires serious hiking to get in and out of. So, if you anticipate walking over long distances or clambering over rocks and such with your rig on, then the Transpac may be your ticket.

Just in case you are interested (I don't know what size you need), but I have a Zeagle, size Medium with Large Bladder (in good shape) for $75 plus shipping.

I sell consignment items for a dive shop. Let me know if you are interested.

thanks for all your wise input, I decided and have just bought a Transpac.
I decided that I wanted the comfort, and the opportunity to customise
the whole setup, which is not possible with my back inflate BC. I am looking forward
to it . PS I got a Diverite travel wing 27 lb I am hoping that will have enought lift for me
Single 10.5L steel tank..7mm wet suit
thanks again

27-lbs wing should be OK, especially if you were to wear a weight belt instead of using weight integration.

Also, don't forget to correctly size the Transpac. It's not the chest or waist size that matters, but the length of torso size. If you don't know how to size yourself then contact Dive Rite for proper sizing information.

Love the look of the Infinity. I want to get that for myself. Gotta scrape up the cash for that. :D
