Good morning to all.

The next November I will travel to Australia. On this trip I will make a couple of stops for diving. One of them will be Yongala. My idea is to do it from Ayr with Yongaladive. Any other recommendations? its better doing from Townsville?

The other stop is Cairns or Port Douglas. I want to dive a day (3 dives) but not which of the two sites choose. I am AOWD. Which one is best reefs, better visibility and more life? I have been looking Tusa and Silverswift or Silversonic. Any other recommendations? I will arrive on time to see whales?

After that I would drive to Brisbane to visit Whitsundays Islands and Fraser Island. Any recommendation to dive here?. I wll be too on Kangaroo Island.

Regards.

The trip out to Yongala from Townsville is highly weather dependent, and also dependent on passenger numbers. It gets cancelled on a regular basis.

Speaking as a Townsville resident, you're better off hiring a car and driving down to Alva Beach and going out with Yongala Dive. It's a shorter boat trip, the weather isn't as much of an issue, passenger numbers aren't an issue, and the dive operation is simply better equipped than Adrenalin is.

Cairns - I recommend Tusa. If you can't do a liveaboard, it's the best of the day trip options.

Further south - if you can get out to Heron Island at the southern end of the GBR, it's worth checking out the diving there.

Ok. Thanks. Then no more doubts about it.

I had read that Agincourt reefs that goes from Port Douglas are better than reefs that goes from Cairns.

Any a recommended operator?

Thanks!!

Hit and miss in my experience. Some reefs in Cairns are better, some in Port Douglas are better. Depends which sites they go to on any given day. The reef off Port Douglas is in better condition (fewer tourist numbers), but I've seen more sharks in Cairns *shrug*

Any a recommended operator?

Thanks!!

There can be only one? ;)

It's not a day trip to Heron, you'll need to stay there for a couple of days, as the boat transfers from the mainland aren't daily. Worth it though :)

We dived from Alva Beach. Much shorter boat ride than from Townsville. They do cancel a lot though, due to windy conditions

We dived with Poseidon from Port Douglas last weekend. About 2 hours to Agincourt reefs. We did three dives. Very nice indeed. Wrong season for whales. I have never done a day dive from Cairns, so can't comment.

That's one hell of a drive...

I didn´t know this operator. Why you chose Port Douglas instead Cairns ? :)

Yes but I want to visit Whitsunday Island and Fraser Island and I don´t have alternative to drive myself by car.

Whitsunday Island is out from Airlie Beach which is a 2.5 hour drive south of Ayr and Fraser Island is out from Hervey Bay which is a 14 hour drive
(1077 km) south from Airlie.

Echoing what everyone has said...Yongala Dive, definitely. I've learned the hard way about doing it from Townsville and now would never dream of doing it any other way that from Alva Beach. Julian Rocks at Byron Bay I'd say is better than any dive option mentioned in this thread outside the Yongala, and BB is a great place to spend some time. If you can get
