I have an Airsource 2. It definitely doesn't breathe as nice as my Atomic B2 primary.
if I were to upgrade my inflator/octo to an Atomic SS1, will there be a noticable improvement?

Is it a worthwhile upgrade, or should I just stick to my Airsource 2 and live with it.

I have an SS1 and like it. It may breath a little hard but it doesn't free flow at the surface or when it gets banged around.

The controls are easy to use and identify by feel and placement.

The best things about this equipment is that it allows you to disconnect the SS1 from your BC and keep it with your regs if you want to. the fittings the connect the BC to the SS1 are the same fittings as a garden hose allowing you to flush you BC bladder with fresh water from a hose.

The one draw back that I know of is that it uses a different style quik disconnect than the standard BC inflator. If you want to use your regs on a rental BC or one that uses the standard inflator you will have to use a different inflator hose or get an adapter that I think is available.

Zeagle also makes a safe second that is very simalar to the SS1 in features, Same Garden hose connection and the same style inlfator hose quik disconnect. it is called the Octo-Z and is a little less money.

My wife and I both have the SS1's and are very happy with them. They breathe just as easy as our Z1's. Not sure how they breathe compared to your B2 though. Claymore is right on target with all his observations as well.

My family owns three Atomic SS1s. My wife and I both have Atomic B2 regulators and I don't notice much difference between the breathability of the B2 and the SS1.

My daughter uses her SS1 with a ScubaPro MK25SA/S600 combination.

I have a both a Sherwood Gemini and an Aquatec Air 3.
The Gemini has received the praise of many reviews and IMHO it deserves them it is a very good breather and the layout I find has good ergonomics.
The Aquatec Air 3 doesn't breath as well but gets the job done. I do however like the feel of it's fill rate on it's power inflator and the built in subduck noise maker. Ergonomics I'll reserve final verdict on. At first use I found it a bit awkward after using the Sherwood but after a few dives I was getting more accustomed to it.

One other thing to consider is that the SS1 will have the same 2-year service interval as the B2. No idea if your current Airsource is a 1 year or otehr service interval...

My wife and I both have Atomic B2's and SS1's and we love them. My vote would be for the SS1! You can't go wrong with Atomic products.
