Any SS1 owners out there have the free flow problem? My SS1 seems to free flow a lot when first getting in the water. Sometimes it has stopped after hitting my bc inflator but other times it has continued to free flow. I have had it serviced by my local shop and they don't seem to think anything is wrong? My concern is I am going to the Cayman Islands in August and don't want this to be a problem for the trip. Since it is integrated into the bc, I don't want to have use an almost new setup because of this? Anyone have the same issue? If so, suggestions?

I may just try to get a new SS1 out of warranty to be safe, but I am not sure if this is an ongoing issue with the manufacturer?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I have not worked on an Atomic SS1 but my understanding is that it is essentially identical internally to a Scubapro Air 2.

The second stage portion of the reg is an unbalanced downstream design, so it is important that it be tuned with the divers reg (and with a full 3000 psi tank if the diver's first stage is also unbalanced) rather than with another first stage lying around the shop.

Alternatively it can be detuned substantially to prevent it from flowing if it is used with a first stage with an IP at the upper end of the range.

Another thing to check is to ensure there is adequate play in the demand lever to prevent it from being too sensitive when in the water. You don't want so much play that the working range and flow rate of the valve is limited but you need some slack in it to avoid freeflow issues.

I think the issue might be the fact that it was not tuned with my first stage, maybe when I first bought it and my gear was set up but I have had it in the shop since. Thanks for the input. I dropped it off and Atomic today for servicing as they are down the street from my office!

I believe the Atomic is a brand new design very similar to their other second stages. I know that it incorporates their seat saver feature (basically s spring-like washer).

The ScubaPro Air2, TUSA Duo-Air are basically identical.

I recently got a flyer from peterbuilt pushing the same air on adjustment tool for all three regs so the internals are essentially the same at least as far downstream as the seat.

Tabata makes the Air 2 for both Scubapro and Tusa, and I would not be surprised at all to discover that they the SS1 variant for Atomic.

It turns out it was the intermediate pressure on my first stage. It was set a little to high causing the SS1 to free flow. I am glad I took it to Atomic direct as they replaced several parts that were changed after the first phase of the SS1 was released. All in all, Atomic was very helpful!
