I am relatively new to diving but I want to get a reg that will be good enough to use for tech diving in the future, as I plan to take more classes and get into tech diving. How would you rate the Atomic B2 for this?

Thanks,

Um in a word yes. Only other better choice in the atomic family would be the M1 and you can add the swivel hose until you start tec. Or buy the B2 and use the swivel until you go tech then put it on your 7ft hose.

Maybe this is a dumb question but why can't you use a swivel hose for tech diving, providing it is 7ft?

In the eyes of some doctrines it is another failure point that will fail and kill you and then you'll look like a dork.

All the best, James

Gotcha, thanks

I am still quite a bit new to scuba...

I should add that after three years of hard diving my B2 has failed in all three assertions (fail, kill, dork). I am very happy with it.

All the best, James

Maybe that is a concern of other brands of swivel but our hose and swivel are crimped together as one - not two separte parts. I can honestly say in over 3 years and thousands of swivels sold, I've only seen maybe a half of dozen that have had problems.
on another note if "technical" diving is considered I'd look at the M1 also, 80% dedicated or 50% back and forth - B2 is only 40% compatible.
cheers,
Darcy

Yep. Divernet test team took the Z2 (which is the B2's cheaper brother and should perform identically) down to 50 meters (164 feet) and it still beathed very well (as were several other regs). See the review at :

If you're thinking of using higher O2 (>40%) in your tech dives, the M1 might be better for you.
Dive safely.

When you start tech diving you will need two regulators for your backgas (double tanks) and they never see >40%, so the B2 will work fine.
I guess you could get the M1 so it can be used in any role, but you're not going to use a backgas regulator for deco/stage and go without a backgas regulator, so it's not much of an argument.
